More Awesome Arizona, Starting with Petrified Forest & Saguaro National Parks

We spent a day at Petrified Forest National Park, enjoying the sunshine and the beauty of the park.

While the petrified trees did not show up very well in our photos, we were able to capture the painted deserts.  One of our favorites was and area called Blue Mesa.  Long ago, ancient waterways deposited clay, mud, and even ash.  These alternating layers of deposits have created stunning badlands.

On to Saguaro National Park, which sadly did not have as many cacti as I remembered.

However, we did see a gila monster on the road, which was amazingly cool.  Neither of us have seen one in the wild, so we hung out with it for quite a while.   It even posed for a few pictures for us.

Someone told us we should make the trip to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, so of course away we went.

Some of the cacti were in bloom, which was amazing to see everywhere, and added to the show the wildflowers were giving us.

There are so many cacti in this park.  We were surrounded by them at our campground, and they were so big and healthy, they made our camper look tiny.  Apologies for the dark picture, it was sunset, and the ole phone doesn’t always capture the moment accurately.

Finally, we decided to take a little side trip and see Sedona as we made our way out of Arizona, and we loved everything about it.  We found a great campsite near town, where we enjoyed some awesome food and window shopping.  There are so many places in and around town with incredible views.  It is easy to see why so many people love the area.
