Cabo San Lucas

As much as we are loving the full time RV life, we also love vacationing in sunny locations like Mexico.  So we use our credit card travel points for getaways once in a while.  Cabo San Lucas is one of our favorite destinations, because of the people, the beaches, and the food.  As a matter of fact, a few eagle eyes have noticed that one of the few decorations in our camper is from our favorite bar in Cabo.

Every time we return to Cabo, our first stop after dropping off our bags at the condo is to walk to the Monkey’s Cave Bar (in Plaza Marlin, Blvd. Paseo de la Marina) and get one of their magical margaritas.  These guys know how to do it right.  They make their drinks with freshly squeezed fruit (oranges & limes for the traditional drink), and we don’t feel like we are in in Cabo until we have one.

If we’re hungry, we can order food to be delivered to us from their second location which has both a delicious restaurant and bar (on Calle Miguel Hidalgo, across from Plaza Amelia Wilkes), or we take an easy stroll to the restaurant to enjoy our food with air conditioning.  The restaurant is also where you and your friends can enjoy a gigante margarita (giant margarita).  This baby holds seven traditional margaritas, and is as beautiful as it is delicious.

Something we really appreciate about both locations is that they are kind and welcoming.  They do not harass you when you walk by to try to get you to come in.  If you don’t know what we mean, try walking down the marina without a restaurant or bar employee pouncing on you to try to get you eat and/or drink at their establishment.  At Monkey’s Cave, we always feel welcome and are able to relax while we enjoy all they have to offer.

If you every find yourself in Cabo, do yourself a favor and look them up.  You will be happy you did!

If you’ve ever traveled much, you know that the time share sales people are everywhere, the airport, grocery store, and even restaurants where they allowed to go table to table, trying to sign people up for resort tours/presentations, while you are trying to eat your meal.   Yes, they offer gifts in exchange for these tours, but honestly, when on vacation, who wants to deal with that nonsense?  To be honest, you absolutely do not need to sign up with them to get discounted activities or meals.

Seriously, you don’t.

We know a guy.

A wonderful man named Angel works at The Caboholic Store on Calle Miguel Hidalgo, next to Cabo Cantina Sports Bar (their pork shank is to die for!).  He has booked us on so many adventures at a better price than any hotel or condo could.  Angel does this because he loves his town, his job, and the people he works with every day.  Anytime someone is visiting for the first time, we recommend they talk to Angel first.  He makes life-long customers, not just sales.  No matter how many people are in our group, he is always able to answer our questions, book amazing adventures, and provide excellent recommendations.

You know we like to save money, so for even deeper discounts when we are in town, we buy a Los Cabos Passport Card, and are able to get 2-for-1 meals, SCUBA diving, fishing, and so on.  It pays for itself after our first use each trip.  I know the card can be purchased in other locations in town and online, but Angel always helps us schedule the best options for our group.  There are not enough wonderful words to describe him.

On our last trip down, Angel helped us book a fishing trip with Maybe Tuna, and our cousin Bill caught a blue marlin!  Catch and release, of course.  It was the best day ever – pretty sure that smile was on his face for the rest of that vacation!

  1. Kids, mom and I are headed down in December. We will definitely look into your favorite places; and maybe talk to Angel. Kids want to do more than pool/sea. So, I’ll me looking for fun young, adult activities. I really enjoy your blogs on all the spots you’ve traveled!!
