Congaree National Park

We enjoyed some time camping and exploring on the outer banks on our way to Congaree.  Being at the beach makes us happy, even if it is windy and a little cloudy.

We also camped at Carolina Beach State Park, one of the few places where venus fly traps grow wild.  We battled mosquitos on a trail through the swampy trees to find as many carnivorous plants as we could.  Wish they did a better job eating the mosquitos.

Finally made it to Congaree National Park, where we enjoyed a nice walk on their boardwalk loop.  Besides more mosquitos, we also saw an alarmingly large spider, squirrels, and other woodland creatures.

They have a pretty good sense of humor regarding the flying blood-suckers, even have a helpful ‘Mosquito Meter’ posted near the trailhead with levels ranging from all clear, to war zone.  While tempting, we opted not to purchase our own meter in their gift shop.
