Massachusetts & More

Continuing our countdown to our final State of our driving adventure, Massachusetts (#7) did not disappoint.  Our first campground was in Salem, and if you get the chance to visit during the month of October, like we did, you will be in for a treat.

The people of Salem were very proud of their history, and were ver friendly.  We spent a day exploring town, and of course enjoying a tasty meal or two.  Tours ranged from learning the history of this town, to the tragic witch trials, to haunted homes.  They had something for everyone.

Moving on to Boston, we took advantage of one of those hop on/off tour trams so we could see as much as possible.  We started at one end of the freedom trail, and explored all we could until we reached the other end.  We even revisited many stops over the next few days to make sure we really got our fill.  From Boston Common to the USS Constitution, and the Bunker Hill monument, we tried to get to everything.

And the food in Boston.  Oh my, the food.  We had an amazing meal in little italy, and kept going back for more.   We visited a few markets in town, too.  The food offered was looked too perfect to eat.  Exploring markets has become one of our new favorite things.  You can see so much of an area’s culture in one spot.  It is a great place to get a small sample of everything, and the people watching is fun, too.

Before leaving Boston, we had dinner with family.  We enjoyed catching up over a delicious meal at the Chart House.  We even indulged in the most delicious dessert.  It was a great night.

Next on our list was Cap Cod, with a stop at Plymouth Rock along the way.

Of course we had to have lobster for lunch, to give us energy to explore the national seashore and be silly tourists.  It was a great way to wrap up this State.

Next up was Rhode Island (#6 on our countdown).   Earlier in our travels, new friends told us that we had to do the cliff walk when in Rhode Island.  We chose to tour The Breakers, one of the homes there.  This was one of the Vanderbilt’s many summer homes.  After touring this house, we walked along the cliff path, past so many mansions it was mind boggling.  It was another awesome day, and we were glad to have friends recommend this excursion for us.

In Connecticut (#5), as we were driving through Mystic,  we saw the restaurant that was the setting for a movie.  We decided to give them a try, and oh my goodness, was it yummy!  Mystic Pizza was better than we expected, hubby had a meat lovers kind of pizza, and I had a grinder. Super delicious, highly recommend.
