Crater Lake National Park is one of the most beautiful places in the Pacific Northwest.  Add clear blue skies and a little snow clinging to the landscape here and there, and it feels like you have walked into another realm.

One morning, we decided to get up earlyso we could find the ideal spot to stop and make breakfast.  Honestly, where else can you enjoy a home cooked meal and a view like this?

We couldn’t get enough of the brilliant blue skies and impossibly blue lake.  Even early in the day, there were quite a few people enjoying the same view.  All of us in awe of the beauty of this place.  Everyone should see it.

After Crater Lake, we wanted to visit another volcano close to home.  Mt. St. Helen’s erupted on May 18, 1980.  On our way up to the visitor’s center, we met a man who had once lived on the Toutle River.  It was interesting and heartbreaking to listen to him talk about having to leave pretty much everything behind and just go on that fateful day.  He still loves both the river and the mountain, living nearby, despite all he’s endured.

Ape Caves-Edit-6703

Ape Cave lava tubes and caves are a must see adventure at Mt. St. Helen’s.   One of us is still not a fan of caves, so she stayed in the palace while the other headed into the lava tubes.

As the longest lava tube in the continental United States, it really is pretty cool.  When asked about the name, we were told it had something to do with local legends of sasquatch.
