We’ve been to Redwoods National and State Parks a few times, so on this trip, we focused more on the beach and explored fern canyon. If this canyon looks familiar, that’s because it was where some Jurassic Park scenes were shot. It was incredibly beautiful, and we loved exploring something new.

To get to the canyon, you have to drive through a stream or two, and then you have to trek up another stream to get to the really amazing parts. The water crossing is fairly easy, but there were still a few people who chose to leave their vehicles on the dry side of the stream and hike in.
We enjoyed perfect weather to stroll on the sandy beach by the visitor’s center, and later spent hours watching sea lions playing on and around rocks off shore.
We wrapped up this leg with a stop at the Trees of Mystery, checking out Babe the Blue Ox and Paul Bunyan, and then a long overdue visit with friends. So much fun packed into such a short visit.
