Galaxy Quest is one of our favorite silly movies. It is a cute little parody that pokes fun at a certain sci-fi television series, the related conventions, and somewhat rabid fans. If you need a silly break, you should check it out.

We stumbled across one of the locations for this film while in Utah. Goblin Valley State Park is where scenes of an alien planet were shot, and we were excited to check it out. This state park is a somewhat easy on to get to when you are doing the loop of national parks in Utah.

The goblins in this valley are what locals call the formations that look like tall mushrooms. The official name for these is “Hoodoos”. They are everywhere, and vary in height, width, and cluster size. We were at the park right after a rain that washed away any signs that others had been there, so it was easy to imagine we were on that alien planet, looking for beryllium spheres.

After a morning of cracking ourselves up, we moved on to the national parks.
