Wow. Just WOW. Neither of us had ever been to Black Canyons of the Gunnison National Park before now. In fact, prior to this journey, we didn’t really know it existed. It was amazingly awesome. The Gunnison River helped carve some of the most amazing canyons we’ve seen. Even in the park, you don’t appreciate how deep these canyons are until you are standing at the edge of one.

We find ourselves often saying that pictures can’t do it justice. Well, they don’t. Especially when using the camera on your phone. Still, we hope you get the general feel for how beautiful this place is by the photos we’re sharing.

We were in the park as snow was creeping into the area, so there were very few visitors, and the campsites were free, as water had been shut off, so no sinks, showers, or anything fancy. Still, yay for free camping!

After driving around to different overlooks, and staring in open mouthed amazement, we decided sunrise and sunset photos would be our goal for the next day or so. Unfortunately, given the time of year, the weather didn’t always cooperate. We tried to get sunrise photos at some of the overlooks, but there was too much fog to see much of anything. Sunsets were obscured by rain.

We would definitely return to this one when the weather is more promising.
