Yummy Beef Skewers

More food!  On a recent sisters’ vacation to a certain mouse house, we had some delicious skewers at a stand by Tarzan’s treehouse. Here is our twist on a compilation of copycat recipes we found online.  You can adjust some portions for your taste – like adding more pepper and garlic.  Yum!

Ingredients for Sauce:

  • 1 Teaspoon of vegetable oil
  • 1 Tablespoon crushed garlic
  • 1 Tablespoon lemon juice.
  • 2 Tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1 Tablespoon ground black pepper
  • 1 Teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 Teaspoon ground cayenne
  • 2/3 Cup  soy sauce
  • 1 Cup water
  • 1 Tablespoon corn starch

Ingredients for Beef:

  • 1 to 1.5 pounds of beef (you could be hungry, I don’t know and I don’t judge)
  • 8-14 bamboo skewers
  • 1/4 Cup  soy sauce
  • 1/2 Cup lemon juice
  • 1/4 Cup water

Directions – Sauce
Heat vegetable oil in pan. Add crushed garlic.  Add more garlic because the recipes did not call for enough.  Saute lightly. Add soy sauce, water, lemon juice, brown sugar, sesame oil, black pepper, red pepper flakes, & cayenne pepper.  Bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat and simmer to reduce. Mix 1 Tablespoon of cornstarch with 1/4 cup of water. Add to sauce, simmer until it thickens to desired consistency.  Let this sit while you prepare the rest of the recipe.

Directions – Meat
Cube beef into one-inch cubes. Put into a Ziplock bag with a marinade of Soy Sauce, Lemon Juice, water and fresh ground pepper (I added 5 grinds). Pop in the refrigerator to marinate for at least 3 hours.

Directions – Assembly
Gently warm the Sauce. Put the meat on skewers and grill to your preferred taste. Serve on a bed of rice, basted generously with the sauce.
